Montée progressive sur une pente herbeuse puis très vite les lacets du sentier traversent un immense pierrier, cône d’éboulis descendu d’un sommet. Arrêt boisson rapide et pour nous encourager, Jean-Luc annonce 600 mètres de dénivelée déjà avalés ! Les rochers à franchir sont de plus en plus nombreux, les cascades relativement faciles à enjamber et les névés incontournables. Un cairn mal repéré, nous montons trop haut et nous voilà réincarnés en chamois, nous accrochant à la pente herbeuse pour retrouver le sentier. Cinq heures de marche commencent à fatiguer. Enfin, vers 13 heures, nous voici au fameux col des Colombes (2420 m) qui offre une vue magnifique sur la vallée du Valgaudemar, quelques villages et tout au fond, la route de Gap à Grenoble.
